The following steps can be taken to troubleshoot general issues with the InScribe application:

1. Ensure that you are on the latest version of InScribe. Outdated versions may have bugs that were resolved in prior versions. You can find the most recent versions online at the following site:

2. Restart your PC. Many issues can be resolved by simply restarting (rebooting) your PC. Be sure to shut down and/or restart your computer regularly. This allows important Windows updates, including security updates, to install.

3. Some issues may be related to corrupted settings. You can address this by renaming the settings file which will prompt InScribe to create a new settings file the next time you log into InScribe to do this, follow these instructions:

a. Shut down InScribe if it is open.

b. Open File Explorer on your computer. You can get to this by opening any folder you might have such as documents or the computer itself.

c. In the address bar at the top, type in: %appdata%

d. Press Enter to go into your Appdata\Roaming folder.

e. Find and open these folders:

  • Emdat
  • InScribe 6
  • transcription.escription-one.com (this may be transcription.escription-one.ca for Canada or transription.escription-one.com.au for Australia)

f. Rename the settings.enc file, adding something like _old to the end of the file name.

g. Then, log back in and confirm if the issue is resolved. Note that when you log back in, you will need to reconfigure your foot pedal, if one was previously configured.

4. If the above does not work, repeat the above steps up to e, and rename the Emdat folder, then try to log in again.
