Jobs Are Not Going To ShadowScribe ASR Speech Engine (2014)

The client is enabled for ASR but jobs are not going to the speech engine.

This article will explain some common causes for jobs not going to the speech engine.

The dictator did not pick a document type.

A document type MUST be selected for the job to be submitted to the ASR system.  If jobs are coming back with no document type, then the clinician is likely using an unconfigured device such as a hand held recorder.

Solution1: Ask the dictator to pick a document type.

Solution2: ASR works best when the clinician always picks the document type they are going to dictate.  However, some clinicians still may forget or it may be difficult to change their habits.  If this is the case, then a default document type can be set at the user or group level.  Note: It is recommended to only use this solution when other attempts to work with the clinician have failed.

InCommand > Client Maintenance > User Maintenance > Edit User > Dictating Clinician Options > Dictating Clinician Default Document Type.

Note: Setting the default document type will work only in those cases when the audio file does not have a document type specified. If a document type is specified and it's the wrong one, this will not overwrite the wrong document type.

The clinician was not enabled for ASR.

This can happen if the clinician did not have a Nuance mapping set.

InCommand > Client Maintenance > User Maintenance > Edit User > Dictating Clinician Options > User Information

Not having a Nuance Specialty selected, prevents the clinician’s dictations from going to ASR, effectively turning off ASR for the clinician.  If this is not desired, then select the appropriate Specialty.

Document type was not enabled for ASR.

InCommand > Client Maintenance > Document Types > Edit Document Type > Document Type Information

Not having a Nuance document type selected, prevents the documents from going to ASR, effectively turning off ASR for the document type.  If this is not desired, then select the appropriate Nuance Document Type.  Note: this is a way to prevent certain document types from going to ASR while leaving other documents types on.  This is useful if you have a document type that is not a good fit for speech recognition, for example it may have a lot of tables.
