This article describes how to change the Event Viewer Settings in Windows, so that the Event Viewer can record messages from ShadowLink and other programs.

To open the event viewer press then Windows/Start Key and R in combination, and type "eventvwr.msc" in the window that appears.

In all versions of Windows you will see a window that looks like this:

When you click on "OK" it will open the Event Viewer program.

Right click on the "Application" log item to bring up the application context menu, and select "Properties."

Selecting "Properties" will bring up the properties window. The part of this screen that we are concerned with, in the red rectangle, is the setting for determining how the Event Viewer deals with its log files being full.

If this is set to "Do not overwrite events" or "Overwrite events older than" the program will not allow programs to write to the event log if the event log reaches its maximum size. To stop this from happening, change this setting to "Overwrite events as needed."

With "Overwrite events as needed" selected, applications that rely on writing to the log will not fail, because the log file will not become locked when it is full.

Windows 7 Event Viewer Instructions

After running the Windows 7 Event Viewer by pressing the Windows/Start key and R key, and typing "eventvwr" and hitting Enter; click on the triangle next to the "Windows Logs" folder to see the Application Log.

Right click on the Application log to bring up the context menu, and select "Properties."

The Properties window will appear with settings for how the Event Viewer should handle the log file being full.
